It’s just a little bit of insulation foam. At take off, there is lots more of it breaking off. The Shuttle’s tiles can usually withstand their impact, but they make the checks for any damage during the “flip” as they approach the ISS.

amazing… never get tired of watching shuttle launch. My heart starts racing when it comes down to T-31 seconds! Hate to see them retiring

if you look near the bottom right corner of the video just after 14:52 you’ll notice a piece of the large fuel tank breaking off. hope it didn’t cause any damage to the shuttle undercarriage.

It never gets boring to watch one of these blastoffs into
outer space!
So many things have to go right that if the general public knew about them they’d all donate to the space program!
