NASA ASTRONAUT LEADS TOUR OF SPACE STATION IN HD
Expedition 20 Flight Engineer Michael Barratt provides a 20-minute tour of the International Space Station, documenting the full 167 feet of the space station’s pressurized modules. Barratts commentary describes to Mission Control in Houston how equipment and supplies are arranged and stored, and provides engineers with a detailed assessment of each module-to-module hatchway.

You’re right, I do have no idea of what he’s talking about!

@Sn0wFreak That’s the plan eventually. You have to remember that these videos are all taken while the thing is still being built, and a lot of stuff isn’t in its final place. STS-133 will leave a module usually used to transport equipment to and from the station called Leonardo as a permanent storage facility this fall. It’s pretty big, and I imagine that will help a great deal in reducing clutter.

why is it so cluttered? cant they have the living and working areas uncluttered by making some places purley for storage?

This is amazing, thank you so much.
February 19th, 2010 at 11:41 pm
This is so awesome. Kudos to you crew members for making this video and showing us earthlings how it is up there.
Looks like fun

I actually find this almost more interesting than the epic IMAX extravaganzas that are made for the general public.
I mean, I have no idea what this guy is talking about, but it gives a more real sense of what it’s like up there. A bunch of humans living inside some pressurised cans high above the earth, running experiments and trying to keep the whole place ship-shape.
There’s housekeeping to do, even in space!

If you want to learn all the acronyms, there are resources available at the NASA web site. One of them : the “press kits” in pdf format they give for each shuttle mission. There’s an extensive lexicon of all the abbreviations and acronyms near the end.

The ISS : much better looking outside than inside.

Win XP FTW!!

I somehow find STS (this morning was a scrubbed launch of STS-130) and Soyuz(Soviet, European, and the spacecraft soyuzes) more interesting. And I don’t work at Houston MC. So apparently NASATV’s not for you. The only show for normal people there is Nasa Edge.

Looks brilliant

@mantas1111000 Because i find the ISS interesting.

haha i sooo wish i cud go ther
tho im nt entirely sure wat tha point of tha station is, its pretty gnarly there is sumtin big up ther. even thought none of us will ever get a chance 2 c it 4 real
February 20th, 2010 at 6:23 am
Why are you waching this video? I believe it’s not worth it for you.
February 20th, 2010 at 6:26 am
I think they could have uploaded a video made for normal people.
Not some boring shit for mission control.
February 20th, 2010 at 6:37 am
good. its for mission control. awesome. its for the engineers. great. why should I care. I say spend all the money making PMAs and TVIS toward health care. actually just shut down NASA all together. provide cheap insurance for people who are sick. I’m not reaping any benefits from their child play. damn, building bombs would be more beneficial to me. its at least getting me gasoline to drive my car everyday. go talk in your acronyms all you want NASA. just not with my money
February 20th, 2010 at 6:53 am
I agree. a bunch of nerds probably built my computer. but I am getting my money’s worth. I am using it and it aids me in everyday life. I have a nice graphical interface where all the functions are described in plain english. I paid for that.
I pay for NASA and what do I get in return? A mission control video slapped on youtube without explanations. Why should I be happy with this? How am I getting my money’s worth. NASA has a budget cut every year because the general population lost interest

It’s called stocking up. It’s not as if they can just make a quick trip to the store when they run out of something. ☺
February 20th, 2010 at 7:38 am
“Nerds shitting acronyms” led to most of the technology that you enjoy—including the device with which you are reading this. So yes, that is exactly what we pay for.
There are more accessibly presented packages out there for those who are only casually interested, and thus aren’t up on the nomenclature. Those of us who do understand it are just as frustrated by horribly pedestrian explanations as you are by unfamiliar language. We have as much right as you to a format that suits us. ☺
February 20th, 2010 at 7:44 am
Heh Ottomated how stupid can someone be, its explained in the description that its NOT meant for entertainment. The point of the tour was to give the people in mission control an idea of space-usage and storage on board. You should just feel lucky that you even get to see it.

Amazing!

I really like this home studio
))
February 20th, 2010 at 11:13 am
this video is annoying because they are blabbering something none of us can understand. their budget gets reduced every year because of arrogant shit like this. make a video that everyone can understand. don’t have the time? well don’t build another space station because we didnt pay for nerds shitting acronyms out of their assholes for 20 minutes. I want to understand and appreciate what you guys have in space. Not stare at white trash bags like idiots and be happy with this video.
